More than 200 cameras clearly visualised with VuWall video processor
Each year, Schiphol Airport handles around 53 million pieces of baggage, the baggage areas therefore contain over 30 kilometres of transport system. Schiphol has one of the most modern baggage halls in the world. To ensure that everything runs smoothly and rapid action can be taken in case of problems, this baggage handling system is closely monitored by directors in the control room with the use of about 200 cameras. The control room is equipped with five control desks, each with its own video processor for 10 to 12 screens.
The outdated video processor gave way to the advanced VuWall VuScape, chosen after careful market research by Scarabee Aviation Group in collaboration with Functional Management Schiphol. As an officially certified distributor of VuWall, Intronics played a crucial role in the implementation of this cutting-edge solution.

Challenge: Flexible control room solution implementable in mission-critical environment
The challenge was to find a flexible control room solution that could be applied in a mission-critical environment such as Airport Schiphol, an airport that operates 24/7. An additional challenge was COVID-19 which emerged during the project.
Solution: VuWall VuScape video processor applied, followed by training on the job
After contacting VuWall, Functional Management Schiphol had a demo at Intronics' AV/KVM test lab. As an official distributor of VuWall, Intronics has the necessary equipment and knowledge. Through configuration support, Intronics eventually implemented the VuScape video processor together with Scarabee Aviation Group. "Despite the challenges of a live implementation in a 24/7 operational environment, Intronics remained flexible and supportive throughout the process, even during the period of restrictions by COVID-19," said Michel Konz of Scarabee.
"Intronics showed flexibility and support during the implementation. This despite the challenges of a live implementation in a 24/7 operational environment."
VuScape by VuWall is not an out-of-the-box system. Jan Riggert of VuWall therefore provided extensive personalised on-the-job training to the top-level administrators. "Partly because of this very effective and professional training, the system was easy to work with and we became familiar with all the ins and outs of the system," says Michel Konz of Scarabee Aviation Group.

Result: An easy-to-use control room system with great flexibility.
The result is an easy-to-use control room system with great flexibility. Five video walls with ten screens each are now active in the control room. These video walls are operated with one keyboard and mouse and controlled by a VuScape video processor. With nice graphical interfaces and the possibility of precise adjustments down to pixel level, the system meets the requirements. The flexibility of the system also includes the fact that images can be moved from one screen to another and that an image can be "blown up" so that it can be displayed enlarged on several screens simultaneously. In the data center of the control room, prefabricated cabling from ACT was used, which further improves reliability and efficiency. Intronics is brand owner of ACT. The VuScape video interfaces are pointed-to-point connected to the control desks with Opticis extenders over fibre-optic cabling.
"We experienced the cooperation with Intronics as very positive. They are driven, do not run away from challenges and offer good support."
