Fibre to the office: future-proof, energy-efficient and sustainable
Fibre to the Office (FTTO) is a standard cabling concept from our supplier MICROSENS and is ideally suited to modern network environments. The intelligent combination of fibre uplink and copper ports makes it possible to exploit the technical advantages of fibre for floor cabling. Fibre to the office is future-proof, energy-efficient and sustainable. We are happy to explain the advantages of Fiber to the Office.
Fiber to the Office vs Structured Cabling Network (SCN)
Unlike today's structured cabling network (SCN), FTTO offers future-proof fibre-optic cables for horizontal and vertical cabling. FTTO offers a cost-effective and flexible network infrastructure that pays for itself in a few years!
Fiber to the Office (FTTO):
Fiber to the Office (FTTO):
- Almost no length limitations (Several thousand metres for single-mode fibres)
- No active devices required for signal conditioning within the network
- Takes up little space, open for commercial use
- Cable volume is reduced by 75 per cent, reduced fire load, high resistance to electromagnetic interference
- No additional costs for air conditioning, uninterrupted power supply and access control
- High bandwidth per user. Only four users per FTTO Switch share one Gigabit link
- Integration of POE, Power-over-Ethernet (+) via the MICROSENS Micro Switch
Structured cabling network
- Limited lengths (max 100 m)
- Many network cabinets are required for cable consolidation (sometimes more than 100 per floor), wasting valuable commercial space.
- Thick cable trays with high fire loads and susceptibility to EMI (electromagnetic interference) can negatively affect overall network reliability.
- High demand for network hardware leading to low energy efficiency, high costs for cooling, maintenance and power supply.
- Limited average bandwidth per user. A Gigabit link is shared by up to 24/48 users.
- Change in technology requires completely new horizontal cabling.
Micro switches from MICROSENS
Whether it is an office application, IP telephony, IP security technology, technology for buildings or applications in Smart Building - Micro Switches from MICROSENS provides users with the performance, security and durability needed in future, secure, decentralised data networks.
Advantages Micro Switches from MICROSENS
1. Gigabit copper port (4x) : Four powerful 10/100/1000 Mbps connections for PC, IP phone, printer or other IP-enabled devices, optionally with PoE+.
2. Gigabit uplink connections : One, or optionally two, Gigabit uplink ports for maximum network availability and reliability, two SFP slots for fibre networks or one SFP slot for fibre and one RJ-45 connection for copper data lines.
3. Power supply connection : Power supply optionally with 230 VAC or optional DC version for external DC power supplies. Optional PoE/PoE+ version with 48 VDC input.
4. Earthing terminal : Earth terminal.
5. Expansion port : Serial RS-232 console connection for optional accessories, also configurable as RS-232 device server.
6. LED display : Clear display of the following functions: operational readiness, link status, data activity, PoE status, boot or reset process.
7. Reset and system key : Reset button for resetting the switch or for loading the last saved configuration (direct hardware function). System key to select IP configuration via management or to restore factory defaults.
8. Label field : Removable label field, specially integrated in the device cover and thus protected against surface cleaning.
9. Micro SD card slot : The firmware and configuration data can be stored on the micro SD card. In case of replacement, this ensures the shortest possible recovery time.
10. Gigabit downlink port : 10/100/1000 Base-T connection to a central network switch over copper lines or for cascading to another Micro Switch.
